Asian stocks drop ahead of U.S. jobs report; China advances
Asian stocks fell at the end of the trading week excluding its Chinese counterpart after the European Central Bank surprised financial markets yesterday and cut interest rates before the awaited U.S. jobs report today.
ECB decided yesterday to cut interest rates to 0.05% from the previous 0.15%, with lower interest rates on loans to 0.300% from the previous 0.40%, and finally further reduction was applied on the negative deposit rates at -0.200 from the previous -0.100%, and with Draghi referring yesterday to launch a program to buy asset-backed securities (quantitative easing) next month.
Today`s focus is on the U.S. jobs report for the month of August with a positive outlook of unemployment rates dropping to new lows at 6.1% from 6.2%, and the rise in jobs numbers added to the economy with the exception of the agricultural sector to 225 thousand from 209 thousand.
Investors still focusing on the Ukrainian crisis with the continuation of peace talks between the Ukrainian president and rebels loyal to Russia. The separatists said they were ready to sign the truce agreement if there is a political solution that protects their entity.
Shanghai Composite rose to its highest since March 2013 achieving gains for the sixth consecutive session supported by the Chinese government decision to launch new ideas this week to support the maritime transport sector.
- Chinese CSI 300 ended 0.95% higher at 23.03 pips and is trading around 2449.43.
- Shanghai Composite ended in green achieving 0.85% gains at 19.57 pips and is trading around 2326.43.
- Japanese Nikkei 225 ended 0.05% lower at 7.50 pips and is trading around 15668.68.
- Australia’s S&P/ASX 200 ended 0.58% lower at 32.77 pips and is trading around 5598.
- Kospi closed 0.33% lower at 6.85 pips and is trading around 2049.41
