Wall Street opened in green ahead the Fed`s decision
The U.S stock local market opened in green territories after rallying the most in a month yesterday as investors assessed whether data showing a drop in consumer prices will give the Federal Reserve room to keep interest rates lower for longer.
In fact today a report showed that the U.S. consumer prices declined for the first time since April 2013 in August, signaling subdued underlying inflation pressures which could make the Federal Reserve think twice before rushing to raise interest rates.
The U.S. Labor Department said its consumer price index fell 0.2% last month as a broad decrease in energy prices overshadowed increases in food and shelter costs.
August marked the first drop since April last year and followed a 0.1% gain in July. Analysts by Bloomberg expected prices to stagnate in August.
Otherwise traders are steady and inquisitive ahead of the Federal Open Market Committee’s decision later today.
They will be watching for clues on when the Fed expects to begin raising interest rates, listening to hear whether the hike could come sooner than expected.
The Fed has been holding down the federal funds rate near zero since the financial crisis, but a strengthening economy has lead to speculation that it will raise rates sooner than later. Most analysts predict the first rate hike will occur next summer.
Accordingly indices came as following:
-The Dow Jones Industrial Average gained by 0.12% to 17152.13.
-The S&P 500 Index rose by 0.10% to 2000.94
-The NASDAQ Composite inclined by 0.04% to 4554.37. As of 10:20 a.m. ET
