Royal Air Maroc projected airline alliance
Morocco’s national carrier, Royal Air Maroc, may join an airline alliance by next year to enhance its corporate offering, expand its flights and access to Asia and other regions.
The projected airline alliance remains disclosed as Royal Air Maroc did not come to a decision yet evaluating its options, past efficiency and advantages of such a venture.
The final decision of Morrocco`s national carrier is expected to be disclosed by the beginning of next year but no specific date has been given so far.
Saida Najioullah, Royal Air Maroc’s vice president added that the airline still did not settle on which alliance it could join and that it is not considering signing with the big three major alliances; SkyTeam, Star and oneworld.
Royal Air Maroc intends as well to expand in East Africa with the majority of its 32 African destinations in the continents west and is actually one of the few airlines to have flights still landing on the West African region where the deadly virus of Ebola is still spreading.
"We are African ... we cannot afford to be there when there is no problem and [when] there is a problem we quit,” said Saida Najioullah.
Royal Air Maroc generated profits these last two years after a government-led capital injection of $186 million in 2011 and 2012.
