افتراضي CEO of Boeing hails Gulf airlines as top aviation business models

The Gulf major airlines are one of the century’s top aviation raw models and will be sustainable for decades to come, said James McNerney, Chairman and CEO of the Boeing Company.

At a conference held at Abu Dhabi this weekend, McNerney hailed the United Arab Emirates Airlines, citing an “obviously successful” and "sustainable" business models likely to spur further growth among Gulf carriers.

Emirates, Etihad and Qatar Airways managed in a short period to expand geographically in Europe and across the world, becoming the top influential carriers and examples of success from buying stakes, expanding flights and routes, sponsoring world events.

According to McNerney, the UAE business models “have essentially become the Hong Kong of this century”.

This year, Emirates airways grew almost by 10% for the financial year ending March 31, with the addition of 24 aircrafts. The number of passengers at the Emirati airline also increased 13.1% with 44.5 million travelling with the airline.

Emirates Airways were boosted by sponsoring six of the top European premier league teams including Arsenal, AC Milan, and Real Madrid.

As for Qatar Airways, the group has become the official sponsor of Al-Ahly Football Club in Saudi Arabia for three consecutive seasons this year. That was the second major sponsorship deal of the airlines after becoming FC Barcelona’s primary shirt sponsor in July 2013.

Etihad Airways has expanded recently in Europe after it purchased stakes in Aer Lingus, Air Serbia, Virgin Australia, Air Berlin, Air Seychelles and Jet Airways.
