Dubai to open 51 new schools by 2020
According to a report by firm Colliers International, a real estate consultancy, Dubai will need to open around 51 new schools by 2020 to cope with the growth of its population.
Dubai`s population, which is expected to reach 3.5 million by 2020, is actually the key factor behind a higher demand for education with Indian schools in the emirate averaging 2,683 students, American 1,479 students and British 1,338 students.
Plus the report estimated that the current value of Dubai`s private schools` properties reached a sum $6.1 billion this year and is projected actually to reach around $8.1 billion by 2020.
"In the last decade, the private education sector has witnessed significant growth; doubling enrolment figures and introducing additional supply, which increased the competitive edge within the market," said the director of healthcare and education at Colliers International, Mansoor Ahmed.
"This trend is expected to continue in the near future and by 2020 Dubai will need an additional 77,000 student places, translating into 51 new schools. This will require investment of an estimated $2 billion," he added.
