Etihad Airways is not interested in ordering more A380s
Etihad Airways is not interested in ordering more Airbus A380s while the launch of its first Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner has been delayed as the airline is focusing on its internal strategic reconstruction.
“Ten A380s is the number we need. We have no discussions to acquire anymore,” said James Hogan, president and chief executive of Etihad Airways.
As for Boeing`s Dreamliner, it has been delayed by “one to two weeks” due to “certification issues,” Hogan added.
Etihad Airways will receive the ten A380s over the next two-and-a-half years, which are to be used on flights from Abu Dhabi to New York, Paris and Sydney.
The airline is only successfully expanding on a global scale after two months ago Air Berlin and Alitalia will be part-owned by Abu Dhabi-based Etihad Airways to trigger stronger ticket sales as the airlines agreed to cooperate on over 400 routes from later this month.
Etihad Airways already reported a 29% increase of its revenues to $1.8 billion for the third quarter of this year but seeks further productivity by this new collaboration after faced a faster growth in passenger demand this summer and received three additional aircraft during the third quarter.
The airline announced publicly that it will expand in Delhi and Mumbai with three additional flights starting from next year.
The extra flights will launch within the first half of 2015 to expand the connection with the two Indian cities, besides to Abu Dhabi, Dubai and 14 Indian other cities with over 200 return flights each week.
